Senior Campaign Strategist – Australian Coal Mining
Must be based in Australia and have a right to work. New South Wales or Queensland, and people living in coal regions will be looked upon favourably.
Two year contract with potential for extension if successful in the role. Depending on experience and capacity to take on responsibility, the salary range is $98,800 – $108,800 p.a. plus 12.5% superannuation.
About the role
Coal mining is Australia’s largest contribution to the global climate crisis. The climate pollution from burning the coal Australia exports is around 1 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent every year, or about double Australia’s total annual domestic emissions from every source. The evidence of a climate emergency is now undeniable and requires a rapid replacement of coal-burning electricity, a halt to new coal mines, and retiring current coal mines.
There are 94 operating coal mines in Australia and around 60 proposed new coal mines and expansions needing an estimated $80 billion dollars in investment. If planned coal expansions went ahead, Australian coal would account for 12% of global emissions by 2030.
You will collaborate with key partners in the development and implementation of campaign strategies and tactics to protect Australia’s environment from the expansion of coal mining and exports, and seek strategies to phase coal mining out.
You will support networks of organisations to work together to achieve outcomes that would not be possible by individual organisations acting alone. You will actively support the capacity building of these networks and partner organisations.
