Grantmaking

The Sunrise Project provides strategic grants to organisations that share the goal of accelerating the transition to renewable energy. Around two-thirds of the funds we receive are re-granted.

How it works

Strategic Grantmaking

Our grantmaking is not an open-application process. We develop grants through collaboration with a wide range of organisations identified through our strategy and program work. Funding decisions flow directly from our goals, focused on where support can unlock the greatest impact in line with our mission and charitable purpose.

We aim to build collective power by supporting a diversity of organisations and approaches: from grassroots community groups and campaign networks to researchers, policy advocates, policy think tanks, tech and finance partners, and civil society organisations. Each grant is guided by our mission, charitable purpose, and values.

Sunrise Australia supports networks of people, communities and organisations to work together to accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy in line with pathways required to limit warming to 1.5°C.

Who We Are

We're strategists, researchers, organisers, and advocates who know what it takes to shift how decisions get made. We believe in making the impossible possible, and have a track record of doing just that.

How We Work

We identify the levers that will catalyse change across the energy system. Then we organise networks of people and organisations to make it happen.
