Finding leverage points
Systemic change in complex systems requires finding the right pressure points at the right time. We build a deep understanding of the political, legal, economic, and financial dynamics shaping energy systems – and who holds power to change them.
Sometimes those leverage points are in government policy processes. Sometimes in corporate or financing decisions that cascade through supply chains. Other times they arise from regulatory and accountability mechanisms that shape industry behaviour. We focus on the points where well-timed interventions can create ripples through the system and accelerate progress.
Building collective power
Once we identify where change can happen, we bring together the diverse actors needed to make it happen. Large-scale change requires different contributions: research that highlights problems and solutions, detailed policy and financial analysis, sophisticated campaigns and grassroots organising, high-level diplomacy and government engagement. We identify the skills, relationships and leadership required and then convene and coordinate efforts so the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts – all in support of a safe climate and healthy environment.

Grantmaking
The Sunrise Project provides strategic grants to partners that share the goal of accelerating the transition to renewable energy. Around two-thirds of the funds we receive are re-granted.
